Africans and the Battle of Savannah

During the American Revolution Africans fought on both sides. Among other battles, persons of African descent were participants in the Battle of Savannah. The British forces had African supporters. The American forces had African supporters, via the French Army.

Haitian soldiers fought on the side of the Patriots, the Americans. The Haitians were stationed and engaged in battle in the area of Garrison Elementary School in Hilton Head, SC. The Haitians saved the day for the retreating French and American forces. Armed Africans were a part of the British defenses in Savannah. Those armed Africans were located in the area of the Desoto Hilton Hotel.
